Gelareh Zadeh, M.D., Ph.D.
Gelareh Zadeh, M.D., Ph.D., is Chair of the Department of Neurologic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and Professor at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. She joined Mayo Clinic in January 2025 and holds the William J. and Charles H. Mayo Professorship I.
Dr. Zadeh earned her B.Sc. and M.D. from the University of Manitoba, completed neurosurgery residency training and a Ph.D. at the University of Toronto, and undertook fellowship training at University Health Network and University College London. Prior to joining Mayo Clinic, she held multiple leadership roles at the University of Toronto, including Dan Family Chair and Professor of Neurosurgery, Head of the Division of Neurosurgery at Toronto Western Hospital, Medical Director of the Krembil Neuroscience Program, and Senior Scientist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
Dr. Zadeh’s research focuses on integrated molecular analysis of brain tumours, molecular predictors of treatment response, and circulating biomarkers, with recognition for her contributions to meningioma research. Her work has been published in leading journals such as Nature, Nature Medicine, Nature Genetics, Nature Communications, and Cancer Cell, and is supported by major international funding agencies.
She is Editor‑in‑Chief of Neuro‑Oncology Advances and has received numerous honours, including the Canada Gairdner Momentum Award. Dr. Zadeh also holds leadership roles in major international neuroscience organisations.
