Sandro Krieg
Prof Dr med. Sandro Krieg, MBA is the Medical Director and Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at Heidelberg University Hospital since 2023. Previously he served in senior leadership positions at Klinikum rechts der Isar of the Technical University of Munich, including as Deputy Director and Lead Senior. He is an International Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and holds multiple certifications awarded by the Neurochirurgische Akademie, including certificates in intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring, vascular neurosurgery, and special neuro-oncology.
Professor Krieg completed his habilitation in neurosurgery at the Technical University of Munich in 2013 and was appointed adjunct Professor in 2019. His research background includes a fellowship with the Department if Neurological Surgery at University of California, San Francisco. He has received several scientific awards, including the Brainlab Community Neurosurgery Award, the 2015 award of the Deutsche Akademie für Neurochirurgie, and the Brain & Spine “Reviewer of the Year” distinction for 2022/2023. He serves on multiple editorial boards and has acted as guest editor for several international journals.
His scientific work focuses on functional neuro-oncology, especially perioperative neurophysiology in which he established several approaches to map, monitor and modulate motor but also higher brain functions in patients with brain tumours and vascular pathologies.
He is also editor of the book “TMS in Neurosurgery” published in 2017 and 2025 as the standard literature in the field.
